A portrait of Zimbabwe

A landlocked country bordered by South Africa to the south, Botswana to the west and south-west, Zambia to the north-west and Mozambique to the east and north-east; Zimbabwe is well known for its dramatic landscape and diverse wildlife, much of it within parks, reserves and safari areas. Home to the Great Zimbabwe ruins, it has beautiful sites to explore.

Formerly the breadbasket of Africa, its economy is mainly supported by mining, tourism and agriculture. With a population of approximately 14.9 million people, it shares the magnificent Victoria Falls (one of the 7 wonders of the world) with Zambia. The rural population makes up the majority of Zimbabweans with 65% of the population living in the rural areas while 35% are in urban areas.

In terms of financial inclusion and education, about 60% of adult Zimbabweans are financially included as they have access to appropriate financial services. However, MSMEs are largely financially excluded in terms of access to credit from financial institutions (FINMARK TRUST).
