Strenthening Financial Education in Zambia (2012-2020)
In line with the Bank of Zambia (BoZ) 2016 - 2019 Strategic Objective no. 3: To “Increase formal Financial Inclusion by 16% in order to contribute to enhanced living standards”, the BoZ and DSIK signed the first Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2012. The main aim of this MoU was to improve the knowledge, understanding, skills, motivation and confidence of the Zambian population and to help them secure positive financial outcomes for themselves and their families.This was the basis of the first Zambia Project that succefully lasted from 2012- 2020.
Promotion of Small-Scale Entrepreneurship in Southern Africa (2021-2023)
In Zambia, DSIK and the Bank of Zambia (BoZ) have an ongoing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a Project ‘Promotion of Small-Scale Entrepreneurship in Zambia’ with the aim to strengthen and promote small-scale enterprises (including farmers) in Zambia and to provide technical advice to the Financial Education Sector.
Some of the results to be achieved in this cooperation are to
• Develop and implement financial education measures for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Marketeers, and small-scale Farmers.
• Strengthen the DSIK partner organization towards more sustainable
Strengthening small-scale entrepreneurship for a social and environmental transformation and economic development in Southern Africa (2023-2026)
Our latest project phase, launched in August 2023, which builds on past successes while incorporating new focus areas such as environmental sustainability and broader social transformation. Bank of Zambia (BoZ) continue to be central partners in this phase. The introduction of the MCR simulation game during this phase is a key innovation, helping entrepreneurs to practice and develop essential business skills in a low-risk environment. Additionally, the focus on environmental sustainability has been integrated into our business training, with entrepreneurs encouraged to adopt practices that are not only economically viable but also environmentally responsible.
Our implementing partners, Women Entrepreneurial Access Centre (WEAC), Zambia Federation of Associations of Women in Business (ZFAWIB), New Apostolic Church Relief Organisation (NACRO), Charity Centre for Children and Youth Development (CCCYD), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Youth Alive Zambia (YAZ), Agricultural Knowledge and Training Centre (AKTC), Zambia National Commercial Bank (Zanaco),Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development, Copperbelt University Africa Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Mining(CBU-ACESM), AB Bank are working on the ground to ensure economic participation is inclusive, particularly for marginalized groups.
